Organization

The Institute of Chemistry, Technology and Metallurgy (ICTM) has a clearly defined organizational structure that enables efficient management and implementation of scientific research and development activities.

The main bodies of the Institute are:

  • The Steering Board
  • The Director of the Institute
  • The Scientific Council – the professional body of the Institute.

The Director manages the operations, finances, and legal affairs of the Institute, represents it, and reports to the Steering Board. The appointment of the Director and the members of the Steering Board are carried out in accordance with the current statute of the Institute and the legal regulations of the Republic of Serbia.

The Director and the Assistant Directors form a collegium, which is crucial for implementing the strategy and coordinating activities among the various organizational units. Their appointments are made taking into account the opinion of the Scientific Council, and their work contributes to the efficient and timely achievement of the Institute’s strategy.

The Scientific Council is composed of researchers from the Institute selected based on their academic titles, with its structure and number of members defined by the relevant legal acts. At its first constitutive session, the elected members appoint a President and his/her Deputy to lead the Council’s work. As an auxiliary body of the Scientific Council, the Scientific Board has been established - comprising researchers with the highest academic titles (Principal Research Fellows) - which provides expert support and advisory functions. The Scientific Board is led by a President, and its structure is also regulated by the Institute’s statute.

The larger departments are organized according to the research areas and narrower specialization. Within each department, research groups and laboratories have been established, and researchers are further divided into smaller, informal, and time-variable project teams. The heads of the departments are appointed by the Director and are responsible for implementing research programs according to financing and project contracts.
