About us

The Centre of Environmental Chemistry and Engineering was established in March of 2016th and consists of two teams:

  • Team of environmental chemistry
  • Team of environmental engineering

By the National Science Council of the Republic of Serbia on September 5, 2017th the Center was accredited in Center of Excellence and on 15.06.2021st was reaccredited to the Center of Excellence by the National Council for Scientific and Technological Development (Reaccreditation: 660-01-00016/1).

The main research areas of the Team of Environmental Chemistry are:

  • The study of migration, transformation, and interaction of pollutants in the environment (atmospheric aerosols, soil, and sediments) with environmental and health risk assessments
  • Assessment of mutagenicity and potential of natural biodegradation of pollutants in ecosystems by computational chemistry methods
  • Exploring solutions for pollutant removal оn their emission sources and developing new methods for measuring and monitoring the fate of pollutants in the environment
  • Combined experimental and theoretical investigations of the influences of changes in process parameters on structural and morphological properties of new mesoporous materials for photocatalytic removal of organic contaminants from water to preserve natural resources

Main research areas of the Team of Environmental Engineering are:

  • Recycling of used electrode systems and repair of worn electrical materials
  • Synthesis of cross-linked polyurethanes for industrial coatings with good mechanical, thermal, and surface properties, and good chemical resistance with a long service life to reduce waste
  • Developing new surface-modified titanium dioxide nanoparticles using different types of modifiers
  • Razvijanje novih površinski modifikovanih nanočestica titan-dioksida primenom različitih vrsta modifikatora.
  • Synthesis of unsaturated polyester and alkyd resins from products obtained by glycolysis of waste poly(ethylene terephthalate)
  • Synthesis of agricultural films from natural polymers, and the production of unsaturated polyester resin from bio-monomers.

Scientific research of the Centre of Environmental Chemistry and Engineering is organized through the implementation of multidisciplinary scientific research projects at the national and international levels as well as cooperation with industry and other sectors.
