BIOLAWEB at the Regional Meeting on Microalgae
14 April 2025

A regional meeting on microalgae was held on April 10, 2025, at the Institute for Multidisciplinary Research, University of Belgrade, bringing together researchers from various institutions across the region. The event served as a platform for presenting the latest scientific findings and exchanging knowledge on the potential applications of microalgae in biotechnology, environmental sustainability, and bioenergy.

Dr Miloš Ćirić presented the BIOLAWEB project, emphasizing an innovative approach to studying water ecosystems using the DNA of different organisms. At the same time, Dr Danijela Vidaković had the opportunity to present long-term research on saline ponds in Vojvodina and the role of the BIOLAWEB project in further research into these habitats.

The presented research focused on comparing the differences in diversity between two approaches: traditional microscopic analysis and the cutting-edge method of environmental DNA (eDNA). The findings highlighted how eDNA can provide a more comprehensive picture of biodiversity, especially for hard-to-detect or rare species, and how it can complement traditional methods in environmental monitoring and ecological studies. You can find the abstract book of their research, along with all other research, at the following link: https://doi.org/10.57745/VBSHUO

It was a pleasure to present the results of the BIOLAWEB project at the congress, which was attended by over 200 participants from more than 25 countries. During the event, participants had the chance to showcase their latest research, engage in meaningful discussions and debates, expand their professional networks, and develop interdisciplinary collaborations for future research projects.
